EPISODE 8: The Wonder Woman Movie

Juliet and Elle abandon the usual format and leave the next issue of Sensation Comics for next time, instead spending more than two hours discussing the brand new movie Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.

The first ten minutes of the podcast are spoiler-free, if you want our quick takes before you watch the movie! We'll let you know when to stop listening until after you've seen it.

LASSO OF TRUTH, EPISODE 6!

In which Elle and Juliet discuss Navy uniforms, Etta Candy at her most commanding, and the sheer misery of the 2009 Wonder Woman movie.

WONDER WOMAN 2009 DISCUSSION

  • We're...not fans of this movie, which stars Keri Russell as Diana and Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor.
  • This is a movie in which Etta Candy is a svelte extra who exists entirely to be a Catty Office Bitch.
  • Steve Trevor only stops making things about his boner when he has an opportunity to whine about women ignoring nice guys like him for "bad boys" like Ares.
  • Diana learns an important lesson in Chivalry: It's Not So Bad After All, Why Do You Have To Be Such A Bitch About It?
Yes, this is Etta Candy.

This sums up our entire attitude towards Steve Trevor in this movie, tbh.

  • The movie will be receiving a re-release this year. People will say it's good, because they haven't rewatched it in nearly 10 years. These people are wrong.

EPISODE 6: Wonder Woman 2009

Juliet and Elle discuss Sensation Comics #5, which is hard to follow but features great maritime art from HG Peter, and the 2009 Wonder Woman animated movie, which we are not fond of.

LASSO OF TRUTH, EPISODE 5!

In which Elle and Juliet discuss Baroness von Gunther's lavish wardrobe, Nazi spy school, the upcoming end of Greg Rucka's tenure as WW writer, and the strangeness of feeling optimistic about Wonder Woman's future.

WONDER WOMAN CREATIVE TEAM CHANGES DISCUSSION

  • Greg Rucka recently announced his intention to leave Wonder Woman with issue 25. Shea Fontana will take over as writer, with Mirka Andolfo on art for two issues.
  • Fontana's done some wonderful work as the writer on the DC Super Hero Girls comics, and we're eager to see what she does with Wondy proper.

  • Mirka Andolfo is best known for her work on DC Bombshells. It's great stuff, but rather dramatically different from the pin-ups she seems to otherwise be known for. We look forward to her work on Wonder Woman with optimism!
